Dear colleagues,
I hope you are doing well, and you autonomous teachers with autonomous students! It is interesting to be autonomous, isn't it?
This week, the padlet creation was the most difficult task to do for me. I asked Russell for help and finally I succeeded.
The discussion was intersting with the provided readings. What is a pity for me me is that in our area, mobile phones are not allowed in classes because some students, instead of listening to teacher to interact, will sit with their phones and send messages to others or they get connected to internet and watch films or listen to music! The thing that should be considered as a learning tool about technology integration in classes is just a tool for entertainment for our students. I hope that in the near future we will be able to help them understand the importance of their phones as far as learning is concerned. And that our headmasters will let us use these mobiles devices so that the students become really autonomous learners.
I am happy this week because I was able to do all the assignments, and I do think that I am not the only who feels satisfied to have been able to finish.
Best regards,
Bénéwindé
Hi Bénéwindé,
ReplyDeleteIt is not easy at all for us, new attendants of on-line courses. But how great is the joy once we succeed, meeting challenges? Concerning the use of mobile phones in class, it is a real challenge in our teaching environment. Many factors are to be considered before trying this technology.
Among these factors are:
-the school policy about mobiles
-the total number of students in your class
-the number of students who possess a mobile
-the teacher's control of the class
-the activity or the task to be done.
Once you have analyzed these factors, you can make the decision whether to try or not.
Congratulations and keep it up!
Best.

ReplyDeleteThanks for your suggestions about technology integration in classes.
And also thank Cote for your factors.

Hi Bénéwindé,
ReplyDeleteAs I mentioned in a comment on someone else's blog, a good strategy for managing cell phone use in class is to only permit students to have their phones out during sanctioned activities. It's easier to monitor student technology use when the class in in the middle of a technology-driven and student-centered activity, because presumably, you'll have the time and freedom to wander around the classroom to make sure that everyone is on task.
Best,
Russell
